Ps 121:1-2: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

During times of trouble, it is easy to focus upon the difficulties. This in turn often causes us to feel overwhelmed as if drowning in hopelessness, fear, despair, or depression. In such a condition it is nearly impossible to function in a way that will allow us to face the challenge and get through it.

The psalmist chose to LIFT his eyes. He had another source of hope. “My help comes from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” If God can create the wonder that we see around and above us, with all of its order and intricate detail, He can certainly take care of me when my life is in turmoil.

Matt 14:23-32: And when he (Jesus) had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. 24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Peter only began to be swallowed up by the storm when he dropped his gaze. Even then, Peter had sense enough to cry out to the Lord. Jesus saved Peter from certain death. It was nothing for the Lord to save Peter and bring peace. The lesson? Look to Jesus Christ in time of trouble and call upon Him.

Isaiah 63:1: Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
