The Light
John 3:19-21 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
These verses give us a definite association between truth and light, and between evil and darkness. They also help us to understand that coming to God is like walking out of the darkness and into the light. The evil deeds that we have done will be shown, but He will cleanse us of them. Just as when we walk out of a dark room and into the sunlight to be free of the darkness, we can walk out of our sins and into the presence of God to take care of those sins. When we admit our faults and failures he will extend to us mercy and forgiveness.
I John 1:7-9 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
When we confess and forsake our sins, the Light of God will fill our lives and we’ll be free of that spiritual darkness.
II Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts…”
“At the cross, at the cross where
I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!”
