In My Distress

Matthew 20:29-34: And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.  30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.  31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. 32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?  33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. 34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

These blind men, through circumstances beyond their control, were dependent upon the compassion of others to meet their basic needs.  On this particular day, Jesus and His followers departed this city, it seems, with every intention of passing by these men. However, because of their dire need, the blind men cried out to Jesus, unwilling to let this opportunity pass.  As the crowds tried to quiet them, they persisted with even more determination.

Like these men, we are sometimes faced with circumstances over which we have little or no control.  Though it would be tempting to yield to discouragement and despair, the solution to our problem is simply to cry out to the Lord.  Our great God will respond with compassion, as He did with the two blind men. If you are in distress, and the situation seems out of control, cry out to Jesus.

Psalms 18:6: In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Jeremiah 29:12-13: Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
