Taking Refuge
Psalm 46:1: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
In this verse of Scripture, the Psalmist states two attributes of God. First, God is a place of safety where people can come and take shelter, especially in turbulent times. Second, God is omnipresent, that is, he is everywhere. This verse also mentions two activities performed by God. First, God provides strength. Second, God provides help to those who are facing trouble. In these uncertain times, it may seem that God is not available. Perhaps you are trying to find a safe place to rest your troubled heart and weary mind. If so, Jesus is a refuge where you can find peace and comfort in the midst of this storm. He is readily available to all who call on Him with a pure heart. If you are struggling to find Him, there is no problem on God’s end, but it may be that something has come between you and Him.
Isaiah 59:1-2: Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Sin and iniquity will separate us from God and prevent us from finding Him. However, we find an answer to this dilemma in the Word of God.
II Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God has more than enough mercy and He would like to forgive your sin, but you must repent and come clean with Him. Ask God for forgiveness and never go back to living in a way that displeases Him. This will clear the way for you to come to Him and take refuge in His presence. You will not have to fear anything. You will find joy, peace, and real satisfaction for your soul. He will provide you the strength you need to face these unprecedented times. He will be your very present help in this time of trouble.
