Knowing Jesus
Philippians 3:8-11: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, (9) And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (10) That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; (11) If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Knowing Jesus is the greatest thing we could attain to in this life. The writer of this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul, tells us that everything he forfeited to know Jesus was not even worthy to be listed. In his mind they had no value when compared to knowing the Lord. Indeed, the Apostle Paul gave up a prestigious position in the religious and political societies of his day. What he received in return would appear to have been a horrible exchange: he was beaten with a whip several times by his own countrymen, beaten with rods, suffered three shipwrecks, was put in prisons more times than he could count, and more. However, Paul never had any regrets about the trade that he made, because knowing Jesus was all that really mattered to him.
1 Corinthians 2:2: For I [Paul] determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
Things have not changed since Paul’s time. We can all know Jesus just as Paul did. The only requirement is to seek Him with all of our heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-14(a): For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (12) Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. (13) And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (14) And I will be found of you, saith the LORD…
Just as in Paul’s time, so it still is today. There is nothing that can compare to knowing Jesus.
