A Friend of God

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Could it really be possible to be so close to God that we could be called His friend?  Some might argue that it is impossible to know or understand God, just because he is God. Scripture teaches, however, that man can become a friend of God.

James 2:23  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

John 15:13-15 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends

Just as Abraham and Jesus’ disciples were counted as friends of God, we may also enjoy this relationship with the Lord.  These men discovered such a rapport because they were friendly toward the Lord.  Abraham exhibited unwavering faith and obedience (friendly to God).  The disciples forsook everything to follow Jesus (friendly to God).

To know Jesus Christ is to know a loyal friend who understands us; one with whom we may share our heart and feelings; and a friend who can help us in the darkest days.

Heb 4:15-16  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…
