The Lord Is My Shepherd
Psalms 23:1-6: The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23 is a psalm of David who was a shepherd and knew what was involved in watching over and taking care of sheep. Sheep are not known for being independent creatures and they thrive when someone (a shepherd) is watching over them and seeing to their needs. The Word of God compares The Lord to a shepherd and people to sheep. There are needs that only God can provide if the sheep will allow The Shepherd to lead them. Where does the Lord lead those that follow after Him? He leads them to the house of the Lord, where there’s restoration for the soul, paths of righteousness, peace, truth, rest for the weary, protection, comfort, goodness and mercy. Oh, I want to be a part of God’s church! Like the psalmist, I want to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Luke 15:4-7: What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found [it], he layeth [it] on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together [his] friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
If you are not following the Lord and feel lost with all the turmoil in the world today, could it be that God is calling you? The Shepherd has a place for you in His flock. Let God lead you to a place of safety in The House of God where truth is preached.
