If Any Man Thirst

Psalm 63: 1: O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

John 7:37-38 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

We have all experienced a desire for something more in life.  Oftentimes, we don’t know exactly what it is we long for, we just know that we are not satisfied within.  In the Psalm above, David likens this longing of the soul to a deep thirst.  Next, we read in John 7:37-38 where Jesus cried out for all who were thirsty to come unto Him and drink. This drink that Jesus gives is not physical water, but rather His own Spirit, the Holy Ghost.

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

In this passage, Jesus is speaking to a woman who had tried many things to fill the longing in her soul.  He explained to her that a thirst satisfied with physical water would only bring a temporary reprieve.  In the same way, when we try to fill the emptiness in our soul with the temporal things of life we will never find true and lasting satisfaction.

If you are thirsting for something deeper in life, come, and drink of the water that Jesus gives. He wants to satisfy your longing soul.

Psalms 107:8-9 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9  For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”
