The Voice of the Shepherd
John 10:27-28: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Two things are necessary for a sheep to live in contentment and security. He must hear the Shepherd’s voice, and then follow the Shepherd. Away from the Shepherd, a sheep is lost and vulnerable, unable to take care of himself.
Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Mark 12:24: And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Jesus is the Great Shepherd. We hear His voice only in His Word, the Bible. The stray sheep is the one who failed to hear and follow the Shepherd, choosing rather his own way. On the other hand, what a sense of security to hear the Shepherd’s voice, and how pleasant it is to follow him in “paths of righteousness,” to the exclusion of our own way.
Isaiah 55:9: For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
We encourage you to read your Bible, and more than this to join us virtually to hear the preaching of the Word of God.
1 Corinthians 1:21(b): … it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
