God’s Favorite Miracle

Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

From this empty, void, chaotic state, God moved upon the water and created something that he later called “very good” (v. 31). The earth of itself was helpless to change the state in which it was. This could also be a picture of the state in which man finds himself. From the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden, we were all made sinners.

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags...”

Nothing that we can do of ourselves could ever change the destination of our souls: social status, job, possessions, or even good deeds. But, thank God, we are not without hope! The Spirit of God can also move upon our lives and change the destination of our souls.  This is God’s favorite miracle, and He is repeating it this very day!

Acts 2:1-4 “… they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting… And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Acts 2:38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
